I havent really played NHL games since the sega genesis versions so im rusty as hell playing NHL 04 but im having some trouble I am playing on the 17/18 rebuilt mod not touched any AI settings as im having the following trouble AI will go insane in the 3RD period like 20-30 shots to my 7 and they will score sometimes 6 or 7 goals in less than 2 minutes and I just cannot clear the puck they intercept everything when I go on a attack my forwards will skate away from good positions so annoying seeing them skate off behind me (manual line change) or sometimes skate right in to me and block my pass or shot AI seem to get forward and back in defence at lightning speed no matter how fast i move the puck they are already all behind it and camped in front of the net and seem to have endless energy I am no way as skilled as you players on here but mostly I do ok on medium im competitive in the first 2 periods especially but the AI go berserk in the 3RD I have played EA FIFA games and have seen something like that before like a crazy AI boost where they will just overpower you boosting the AI but come on 7 goals in 2 minutes? that stupid how can I fix these issues or overcome them please? I did read the tips thread on here and that helped me improve already but not enough im losing 7-2 5-1 3-1 yet am either winning or tied in periods 1 and 2 Edited by dannygio, Jun 10 2018, 04:31 PM.

Sounds boring but practice, practice, practice. Use player advantage +2 or +3 for your team until you get better. Here's my gameplay tips (when you have mastered the game). http://www.nhl04.com/topic/941624/1/ |

ok so i started a dynasty with the oilers and had it +2 for player it all started well beat the sharks 2-0 lost to vancouver in OT beat calgary 1-0 none of them easy games really had to hold on in some of them it was brilliant but then faced buffalo and the dreaded 3rd period happened again ![]() ![]() Im not complaining about losing just want to know is this common in the game do you experienced players ever have this happen? or is it a fatigue slider giving the AI an advantage at the end of the game? i do manual lines and always change as soon as it hits yellow sorry for all the questions just trying to figure out how to balance it im not even sure if the gameplay sliders are player related or AI Edited by dannygio, Jun 11 2018, 01:16 PM.

Yes, sometimes you get overrun by the CPU team. That's why we're always hooked on this game (no pun intended lol). If you play the Season mode, you will see a lot of variation how the CPU plays. |

Momentum seems to be huge in this game. Whenever you give up a goal it seems to greatly increase the chance your goalie will give up another if you let up another good chance. That could be why you are seeing such great rushes of goals allowed all at once. Goalie needs time to recover confidence

IMHO the fastest way to see improvement is use all your defensive tools and work on passing the puck. I feel like I was in the same boat as the OP, I played Blades of Steel on Nintendo and Sega Genesis but hadn't much experience playing the newer versions although I owned some. I started playing 'Easy' so I could get the feel, I even played a season on 'easy'. It took me six months to a year to be able to consistently beat the AI on recommended medium settings. |
