Vokoun signing was the best of FA. Shocked.

Give the man props, he wants to win more than make another pay day.

No that's not the issue, his agent and him were both stupid because what they did was price themsleves out of a move to Colorado and Phx who were both looking for a goalie and I know for certain that Colorado did make an offer for him. Maybe Colorado offered $4.5 M or so and he wanted something higher like Bryzgalov got, Colorado is too cheap to offer that atm and obviously Phx...

So he basically priced themselves out, I had a feeling that Columbus or Washington might make a move for a goalie and there you go. Washington look like geniuses now because they get Vokoun cheap for a year so they can wait for Neuvirth/Holtby more, and they get a 1st+2nd round pick for a goalie who was guaranteed to leave. That 1st pick is gonna be a lottery pick too if Varlamov has any injuries this year because the Avs need their goalie to be a stud even with an improved defence because their coach doesn't know how to have his team keep puck control or play good defence.

Havlat -> San Jose, Heatley -> Wild.

I am pretty much surprised. I REALLY hope that Heatley can play good enough without Thornton and Marleau. Maybe a new power-double with Koivu?
Montreal Canadiens 2016-17
Minnesota Wild 2011-12
Minnesota Wild 2010-11

I think Heatley has more pure talent, and is a better goal-scorer.

Looks like his been into a slumb in the past seasons though.

Havlat has been a bit injury prone though his career?

He's been in a slump in the playoffs, he's okay in the regular season. He might help you get to the playoffs with his regular season performance, but he won't actually help you win in the playoffs.

I should know this, since I bear his name, in some kind of a way..
No, he hasn't decided yet, since he had a little operation in his knee (the one that's been struggling earlier). If the knee permits, he said he will continue, if not, then not. Decision comes maybe in the beginning of August.

I have some news to report: There has been contact between the Devils and Kaberle. However, it was a how much is he looking for type conversation. The price is apparently high, that is why he has not signed anywhere. North of five mill is the asking price. NJ will wait him out at that point, if someone gives him that price, well good luck to him, if his price comes down to about 4.125 over a six year deal, then the Devils will look to sign him at that kind of deal, it's kind of like the Volchenkov deal.

I dunno if I'd sign him for six years. I'd prefer a 4 year, 4.5M per contract. But, we need a good PMD for the powerplay for Kovy, so I wouldn't be totally against it.

Yep, Lamoriello is a smart GM, he knows what to do. There is of course a risk in getting Kaberle signed, but you can always trade him away

Hope that Kaberle picks his game up, cause he has been a bit rubbish lately.... and he was not very popular in Boston, mostly cause of his play.

But yeah, Devils need a Niedermayer again in their defense, even though replacing a guy like that is nearly impossible.

Damn you, Lou.

Oh, I definitely agree with all of that. I think our defense is finally starting to improve, though. Winning the draft lottery, AND getting Larsson at #4 really helped us (we would have taken him #1 overall if we had that pick.) Then we have Merrill, Urbom, Burlon and Gelinas. Our d-corps could be fearsome very soon. At the very least I see Larsson, Merrill and Urbom becoming great for us.

I think Kaberle to Carolina is a good fit. I think the contract will prove to be a bargain.

Dean Lombardi on re-signing Drew Doughty: "I am getting the feeling on Drew that unfortunately this could take a while." More on blog soon

Wow, I hope Drew gets pissed over that comment and stiffs Lombardi on a one year deal. And that right there is why Lou always throws the same line "status quo" instead of putting his foot in his mouth.

Parise for Doughty. Doughty signs a lifetime contract with his favourite NHL team. And the Devils would have their new Niedermayer.

I would dread a Parise for Doughty deal.....seeing that 1) I like the guy as a player and 2) he'd tear it up with the Devils.

This isn't Ilya Kovalchuk he's dealing with, I think they'll lock up Doughty, unless he decides to say screw it, and screw them over.

Hey, if the Devils need a puck moving defenseman, they can always sign Bryan McCabe! :P B) :D

Ranger fan eh? Ah well, I'd like to see how cocky the Rangers would be once the Devils have an adequate defense. It's been too long since we've had anybody worthy of talking about. Hell, even Ralfie wasn't that great.

Doughty loves NJ because of Marty, who is most likely going to be apart of the front office once his playing days are over. I couldn't see why Doughty would say screw it to his idol. Especially with Scott Stevens in the system as well. I might be biased, but Drew coming here would be in his best interests!

Funny. Well, I'd rather take McCabe than Redden. :P Can't wait to see how the Rangers fair with Richards. The rivalry shall be exciting as always.

I don't know why Doughty wouldn't wanna play in LA (unless he's fearful of earthquakes or they're offering a bad contract) because the team has improved a tonne and if they add another dman and stay healthy then they can be a contender or go far at least. I think they're in a better position than NJ.

Problem is that he had a Norris like year in 09/10 and an average year last year because of an injury so him and the team probably disagrees about his real value. He can play like a number one dman but he's a bit poor at times (young player though) meaning that he makes really stupid decisions as well so do you give him a big contract right away?
