So, with the preseason here, what do the standings look like at the end of the year? IMO, they go something like this: *Division Leader (P)Presidents Trophy East ---------------------------- West *Washington (P) --------------- *San Jose *Philadelphia --------------- *Vancouver *Boston -------------------- *Detroit Pittsburgh --------------------- LA Buffalo --------------------- Chicago Tampa Bay ------------------- Anaheim Montreal --------------------- St.Louis NYR -------------------------- Nashville =========================== Toronto -------------------- Columbus NJ ------------------------- Colorado NYI ------------------------ Minnesota Winnipeg ------------------ Dallas Carolina ------------------- Calgary Florida -------------------- Phoenix Ottawa --------------------- Edmonton Scoring race- Crosby: 126 points Ovechkin: 105 points St. Louis: 101 points Stamkos: 99 points D.Sedin/H.Sedin: 97 points Getzlaf: 95 points Perry: 90 points Backstrom/Kopitar: 88 points Iginla: 85 points |

I'm not sure if Anaheim will make the playoffs over Nashville but the rest of the western teams outside the top 8 aren't really that strong. I think STL would finish higher than Anaheim anyways. And Crosby won't get 126 pts because he likely won't be there at the start of the season. I'd also expect one or two of the young players like Giroux or Tavares or maybe even Hall to be in the top 10 in scoring. Also, don't think three players will get to 100 pts, might not even be one because goals will probably go down again. |

Jagr is going to bring the Eastern Cnf title to Philadelphia, and Western Conference title is going to Vancouver. Nothing else in my head today

I am banking on Crosby missing the first five games only. That is where the 126 comes from. Anaheim slots in higher than StL because of Hiller and the return of Selanne. I get what you mean about the 100 point thing, but St Louis had 99 last year and Perry had 98. Three or four bounces would have given us 3 players at the century mark, 4 if Crosby was healthy. Also, I mixed Colorado and Nashville up. Nashville should be at #8. |

An interesting prediction I've heard, Winnipeg will finish around last. I don't know if this is the case but they didn't really improve at all in the off-season. No real notable free agent signings or trades. They were going downhill at the end of last season. You can maybe assume that some of the young players will improve and maybe Scheifele will make the team as he's looked good in camp (probably won't). But the theory I've read is also that Winnipeg Jets ownership doesn't mind "tanking" right now because they have the support of the fanbase. They did a smart thing with season tickets where they've got people locked in for five years with season tickets so attendance isn't a huge issue if the team does really bad for a year or two. So this gives them a chance to do poorly and get good draft picks to complement their current young players like Kane, Burmistrov, Bogosian, Scheifele etc. They did add Blake Wheeler at the trade deadline last year and I thought he was pretty good, should have an improved season. |

Yeah, the Jets really failed to do anything this FA season. Granted, the Manitoba capital is a hard sell for notable players who have the option to go to places like San Jose, but I feel as though they could have signed more grit guys. They did well to aquire Eric Fehr, but I think they also should have gone after Boyd Gordon and perhaps even Erik Cole. |

Hard to determind anything from the pre-season games, but my thoughts so far: - Flyers look pretty good with Jagr, he still has alot of skill in his body and stick. And Simmonds have impressed aswell. - Islanders might get to the playoffs this season if they stay healthy. - Canadiens will probably get the usual 7th or 8th spot. - Boston looks just as strong as last season. - Florida might suprised some people, they made alot of big trades this season, and have a quite good team on the paper. This was only the Eastern Conference, whops. |

The East is gonna be like the West was last year I think. There wasn't much competition but Buffalo has gotten better in the East, Mtl has improved slowly in the past few seasons, Washington is gonna be better I think, even Toronto will be better and possibly a 7-8th team (still think they need a coaching change). For the West, Phoenix is the team to be concerned about. I mean, Mike Smith might be the starting goalie and their best centre is Daymond Langkow. Even if they manage to sign and keep Turris their centre depth is poor, Hanzal is a defensive centre. I think it'll be a fun conference though because STL is loaded offensively but not as good defensively, LA got better offensively, Edmonton are gonna be better offensively but still a bit poor defensively and there's more examples like that. So improved offense and less defence is always a good combination for fans. I like SJ more this year though, they look solid. |

Yeah, the clock is running down on SJ. Since they traded away Coyle, they really have no other big time prospects in the wings. That being said, they are probably the best team in the west on paper again this year, after loosing that position to the Canucks in 2011. Honestly, I would be surprised if the Eastern playoff race tightens up too much. The same teams are in contention this year and with the possible exception of Toronto, none of the non playoff teams in the East really made changes that have the potential to get them over the hump. |

^ It's about player development more than anything. NYI for example played fairly well after the 2nd half and their coaching change. They had five 20+ goal scorers all of whom were young and I could see Neiderreiter or Bailey possibly being up there in goals too plus Okposo who was injured last season. They also missed Mark Streit for the entire year and Eaton for much of it. Their problem is still goaltending (they have prospects in that position like anyone) but everywhere else in their lineup they've improved. I'd say the same thing for Carolina. If Dalpe/McBain/Skinner continue to improve then their chances look good, maybe Boychuk can make a contribution mid-season. And I think Ottawa will be better despite losing some guys like Fisher at the trade deadline. Anderson was really good for them in the last quarter when they traded for him, Regin I think was undergoing a sophomore slump but will be better, Alfredsson might be healthier, Butler is predicted to get 40 points+, Zibanejed has looked good in pre-season and might stick with the big club, and Cowen has looked really good, he'll be a rookie. They expected a lot from Runblad and from what I hear Cowen has been babysitting him in pre-season but Runblad will probably adapt defensively and he's great offensively in the WJC and everything. I don't really like Florida too much tbh. They have a bunch of 2nd/3rd line guys but they don't have impact players atm. Which is fine because some of their young players will probably develop into top 2 dmen or 1st line forwards but atm I'm not sure if that type of team can make the playoffs. |

I agree with most of these predictions from the PuckDaddy blog except for 18, 15, 11, and 12 (disagree with 12 not because STL won't make the playoffs, I think they will but they might not, I disagree with it because no way does Columbus make the playoffs and STL doesn't this year). 1. After missing by a single point last year, the Predators will break 100 points again — and challenge for the division title — as their young forwards start contributing more. Barry Trotz will finally win the Jack Adams as a result. 2. There won't be a tighter three-team division race in hockey than the Northeast. 3. This will be the victory lap season for Teemu Selanne (notes) and Nicklas Lidstrom (notes) , who ride off into the sunset as the best two European players to ever play the game. Teemu will also score the 59 points necessary to edge past fellow Finn Jari Kurri on the all-time scoring list. 4. Brent Burns (notes) will quickly become one of the highest-scoring defensemen in the league this year. Getting power play time with Joe Thornton (notes) , Patrick Marleau (notes) and so forth will help that. 5. Rick Nash (notes) , who finally has a real center, will push Steven Stamkos (notes) for the Rocket Richard. 6. The Islanders are going win a good amount of games thanks to a decent power play, but still won't make the playoffs due to that whole "goaltending" issue. 7. The Capitals will win the East by at least eight points when their offense bounces back big-time after a sub-league-average finish in goals for last year. You can expect a big year from Mike Green (notes) . 8. Only two coaches will get fired this year. At most. 9. The Coyotes will miss the playoffs for the first time in two years when the can't-miss tandem of Jason LaBarbera (notes) and Mike Smith (notes) do indeed miss. No one will notice. 10. Jaromir Jagr (notes) will begin to really slow down in the second half of the year because he's old. He'll still finish with 50-something points. 11. Drew Doughty (notes) in the Norris conversation. Believe it. 12. The Central Division will send four of its five teams to the playoffs. Sorry, St. Louis. 13. Dany Heatley (notes) will adjust well to Minnesota. Devin Setoguchi (notes) will not. 14. Sidney Crosby (notes) will miss 10 or 15 games and still finish in the top five in scoring. But Evgeni Malkin will win the Art Ross and the Hart in a walk. 15. Jacob Markstrom (notes) will at some point take over the Panthers' starting goaltending job. 16. The Canucks will win the President's Trophy once again, even if most of the Northwest did get better in the offseason (not so fast, Calgary). 17. The Lightning will wholly fail to replicate their success from the stretch run and playoffs last year for some unknown reaso… their goalie is HOW old? 18. The Oilers will finish 30th once again. Obviously. 19. The Devils will "miraculously" make the playoffs when their best player is healthy for the whole season and their coach isn't a complete dolt like John MacLean apparently was. Last year is going to end up like the 2006-07 Flyers': forgotten among another characteristic run of success. 20. Dallas will be out of the playoffs well before the last game of the season this time around. |

Guys what happend in Dallas?I watch today video report from game with Phoenix and i was surprised with empty seats. Only 6300 fans, thats really poor number. Does anyone now why?On opener with Chicago they had almost 15500 fans, so where the hell the were?I remember this numbers maybe from Isles or Atlanta games but Dallas? |
