Hi guys, I was wondering if anyone here have tried to change the ingame sounds, like shots, hits, etc? I know that the crowds and stuff have been changed, so I was wondering if it was possible to change the other sounds as well? Does anyone know where are those sound files stored? Thanks for replying. |

Lots of people have requested this, but no one has been able to do it. You can open the AST files with AST editor. Give it a shot. http://z15.invisionfree.com/NHL04Rebuilt/i...hp?showtopic=11 |

Modding the ingame sounds (crowd/on ice sounds) is known to be the trickiest part of all the modding possibilities of this game. I remember trying to play the extracted ASFs from the ASTs and all I was able to hear is noise/crackling sound... maybe by changing the frequency and bitrate of these ASF files would make them playable (and hearable)... I think the available modding tools were not build with changing the NHL04's ingame sounds in mind. Good luck. |

Hi guys, thanks for the reply. Can someone tell me how to extract the asf files from the ast files? I mean I'm trying to do it with ast editor but I get an error saying that the files were not extracted properly. Thanks |

Insomnia sucks... I was able to extract the asf's from the crowds.ast file resulting in some 270 files. And, much like Netso said, playing them results only in a sound like a bowl of rice krispies. i converted one of them to a .wav and loaded it up in goldwave trying to get something intelligible out of it, but I'm afraid this is out of my league. A Google search turned up pretty much nothing, except bringing me back to here. ![]() Edit: Googling - NHL 2004 "crowds.ast" brought me to this page, but I don't understand Finnish and the translation isn't so hot... I don't know if they were able to find a solution. http://keskustelu.fhr.fi/viewtopic.php?f=29&t=2028&start=15 |

Well chanhing chants is not a big problem, with asf tools its quite easy, but I never try to change anything else. problem is that the sound is needed in good quality, cause you have to increase volume, import in game somehow lower it. |

Netso - I found out how to listen to the extracted .asf files. (It took awhile wading through pages in Finnish and Russian) I selected around 10 of them, renamed them menu01, menu02, etc, and copied them into the /feaudio folder. Then loaded the game and could hear them as menu tunes. crowds_00248.asf through crowds_00252.asf are the music intros for each game. crowds_00253.asf through crowds_00272.asf are national anthems. I guess to repack them into the .ast file you use ASF Import/Export found here: http://egorgiy.cznhl.com/index.php?lang=eng&fold=nhl2005 But as Ocelar says we'll have to boost the volume so we'd need high quality stuff so some of the sounds should probably be left alone. But at least we know which ones are the damn music intro's which I've grown to hate lol. Theres 270+ files, I'm assuming one of them is going to be the goal post ding that sounds like a school bell hit once, maybe that can be changed. I'm going to sleep for awhile now, I'll play around with this later. |

Hey Doyle ! Great idea of renaming the extracted ASFs to hear them play in the menus !! I would never thought of that !! Changing the music intros is one easy task, I've already managed to do it but I was disappointed to find that when you skip the intro by pressing any button, the music intro still plays until it ends and it slows down the game a lot (for those with slower PCs). Also you gotta export the ASF to specific khZ (think its 22 000) because any other frequency will cause the music to play at a higher pitch. Personnaly I never play the intros before the games and skip them, my main concern about the crowds.ast file is to remove the "ohhh" sound that the crowd makes when a player get hit. Some other sounds like the "puck hits the post" would need a change and be replaced with another sound. Another sound that I remember would need a change is the guy that yells "booooring !" that seems to play at every game, even if its game 7 of the Stanley Cup Final... Heres high quality hockey recorded sounds that would be a great fit in the game... http://www.soundsnap.com/search/audio/hockey/score?page=4 ... the "Various sounds of a hockey match" sounds seems to be a great fit for the game I can easily manage to isolate some of the sounds and boost the volume by using powerful mastering audio tools and technics that does not destruct the sound like boosting play volume using free audio software. |

Well guys, if you manage to do that it'll be awesome. I guess it'll also make the game more realistic. Good luck |

I agree! Unfortunately I tried myself to at least change the "hitting the post" sound (which I really hate in NHL04), with no success. This is really one the trickiest part of modding this game. Good luck the next soldier who tries, and a big kudos if you can make it! Regards, Franco MDH |

Guys I found something! First, export all the asf files in a folder using AsfImpExp. Then, no need to put them in Fodio to listen to them! Just download k-lite codec pack, the standard version, and you should be able to play them in windows media player! Hope it works for you too! We're in something I know it, and I have a feeling this will be solved pretty quickly. Good luck! |

That's very great news. Guys, keep on documenting on how you manage to handle these sounds modifications, we're on the edge of getting a more realistic game !! |

I've listen to the crowds files, and I didn't find any of the pass/shoot/posts sounds. Hopefully someone will have more luck than me. |

While I want to take credit for the idea of listening as a menu tune, I kinda stole it from another website that was in Russian and talking about NHL 2005. Of course Ocelar and seb already have easier methods lol. One problem I'm seeing is that not only do we need good quality sounds, but they have to match up in size to the file they are replacing. Or so it seems. I'm thinking maybe if you made the files close to the right size, and then used a hex editor to add more til you get the exact right size, it would work, but i really don't know to be honest. And I don't necessarily need to replace the "booooring" voice, if I can just make it disappear forever that would work too! |
