Hi, here's where the "booooring" crowd sound is lokated. Open crowds.ast with asfplayer and the file name is crowds.ast135.asf

Hope this helps, now if I could just find the shots/passes/posts sounds.

Well here is the break down as I went through them all:
crowds 2 & 4 - crowd noise
crowds 5 thru 20 - horns
crowds 21 - 247 - fan whistling/yelling (135 is "boooring")
crowds 248-252 - intro songs
crowds 253 - 272 - national anthems

crowds 1 & 3 play nothing, they are 1k in size.
Sooo... while there is a few cool things to do here, we're apparently looking in the wrong place for the ooohs and aaaahs and pings.

Definitely. I also noticed that we can open plyrspch.big lokated in the speech folder with asfplayer, but those sounds dont sseem to be there. Hopefully someone will have better luck than I had.

Well I went through all of shared.ast, no luck. And I can't get anything out of coresfx.ast. This is what happens when a noob is in charge!

Don't worry man I went through them also and didn't find anything. Hopefully we'll find something else.

One problem I'm seeing is that not only do we need good quality sounds, but they have to match up in size to the file they are replacing. Or so it seems. I'm thinking maybe if you made the files close to the right size, and then used a hex editor to add more til you get the exact right size, it would work, but i really don't know to be honest.

I'm pretty sure that any sound saved in the ASF format with the same length will always result in the same size. I've made a lot of ASF ditties that contains different waveforms but in the end, as long as the length is the same on each files, the size will always be the same.

So can I just edit a song down, name it crowds_XXXX and use AST pack to get it as an intro song?

I've managed to import ASFs using the ASFimpexp tool. This is very tricky. First you got to look at the size of the file you want to replace in ASFimpexp. Write down the "size dec" value of the sound. Run the command tool (using admin privileges) and create an empty ASF file using this command:

fsutil file createnew NEWSOUND.asf XXXXX

... replace the XXXXX by the "size dec" value you've noted before.

Now you've got a soundless ASF file (that may be perfect to mute other sounds you may not like).

To edit this ASF file, open it with an HEX editor... I'm using XVI32. Scroll down to note the last Adr.Hex value (important !!). Now scroll all way up to select the first Adr.Hex (0). Click "File" then select "Insert"

Insert your new ASF file which have been generated from wimpditt. (In wimpditt you must import a 24000hz WAV file with a single channel. To correctly output this type of WAV, use a tool like WinFF that lets you custom the output settings. Note that the new sound file must be the same or less length of the old ASF you're trying to overwrite.)

When you have imported the ASF with sound at the beginning of the soundless ASF file, go to the Adr.Hex value you've previously noted and goto the next case at the right. Go to the Edit menu and select "Delete from cursor". If its all correctly done, the last Adr.Hex value should be the same as you've previously noted. Save your file and its now ready to import using ASFimpexp !!

I simply cannot believe that every sound is available for us to edit except the goal post ping... I can't even find any stick noises or anything like that.

Wow, great job on this guys! Never ceases to amaze me that in a game this old, there are still breakthroughs that can be made that could improve it even more.

Good luck, praying you guys can figure something out. I've been working in audio engineering for years and editing those post/goalie blocker/stick sounds could be a huge breakthrough for the game. The first thing I noticed about NHL10 (or maybe 09, I can't remember) was the sounds of the puck hitting the pads and posts and just being wowed at how much it sounded like REAL hockey. Not that it means anything but when I finish the FHR04 conversion I can try to give a hand with this, though if Netso can't crack the code I don't know that I'd be any help =)

So far I have only changed the intro songs (which take some work but know work perfectly) and the "booor-ring" guy (which I've changed to Jim Florentine's Special Ed character yelling "Yaaay!").

I still for the life of me cannot find the on-ice sounds. No stick sounds, no pads, no whistle, nothing. I've looked everywhere, and have no idea what else to do. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Also, what do you guys think would be some good team intro songs? You can have up to 5.

Right now I have Carmina Burana O Fortuna, the theme the wrestler Goldberg came out to, the Blades of Steel music, Prodigy "Smack My Bitch Up", and "Gonna Fly Now" from Rocky.

"The Game" by Motorhead would be a great team intro song.

Good work guys...!!

Can you remove the "swoosh" sound after each and every hit? That would be nice... it could be silenced or replaced with something more... well... moderate.
