Right now I'm in the middle of moving, but after I'm done I'll try to track down the "swoosh" sound. I don't remember coming across it previously, so it may be with the goal post and skating sounds that we haven't been able to find yet.

Using asf player, I've listen to all of the .asf files contained in the .ast ones. Other than the shared.ast, crowds.ast, (coresfx.ast) I couldn't get anything out of this one, I noticed we also can extract out of the file audrinke.big and also plyrspch.big. I've listen to them also and the sounds we're searching for don't seem to be there. However, maybe they're in an other file somewhere.

It'd be great if those could be replaced somehow. Keep on searching... I'm sure it's possible to access them.

Have you been able to open all files? I recall I once went through the files with the AST editor and it halted with one particular file... can't remember what it was though... it's been years.

I've looked in those files, and the only one I couldn't get anything out of was coresfx.ast, I don't understand why. Hopefully we'll find something soon, that'd be great.

Guys,

I don't know if you have ever looked into these two files in the \required\audmisc dir:

aemsgame.a1c and aemsgame.csi

when I viewed them in notepad I could see something like this:

Sfx_PuckHitPost

or

Sfx_WristShot A1cbSfx_WristShot Sfx_SkateStroke A1cbSfx_SkateStroke Sfx_SkateStops A1cbSfx_SkateStops Sfx_SkateScrape A1cbSfx_SkateScrape Sfx_SkateSave A1cpSfx_SkateSave Sfx_SkateLand A1cbSfx_SkateLand A1cpSfx_SkateLand Sfx_SkateCarvs A1cbSfx_SkateCarvs Sfx_PuckHitBoards A1cbSfx_PuckHitBoards Sfx_GoalieSkateScrape A1cbSfx_GoalieSkateScrape Sfx_Warning A1cbSfx_Warning Sfx_HeelToeTurn A1cbSfx_HeelToeTurn A1cpSfx_HeelToeTurn SFX_PuckHitGolieMask A1cpSFX_PuckHitGolieMask Sfx_StickHit A1cpSfx_StickHit Sfx_Woosh A1cpSfx_Woosh Sfx_GoalieStickSlap A1cpSfx_GoalieStickSlap SFX_STICKDROPGOALIE A1cpSFX_STICKDROPGOALIE sfx_playercollisions A1cbsfx_playercollisions A1cpsfx_playercollisions A1cesfx_playercollisions sfx_expultions A1cbsfx_expultions A1cpsfx_expultions sfx_punchthrow A1cpsfx_punchthrow A1cesfx_punchthrow sfx_punchimpact A1cbsfx_punchimpact A1cpsfx_punchimpact A1cesfx_punchimpact SFX_StanleyCup A1ceSFX_StanleyCup SFX_GoldMedal A1ceSFX_GoldMedal

Maybe... there are many ingame sounds that would be nice to change... like the puck hitting the post.

I'd love to get rid of the "ooh" shout after each and every small tackle as well. :)

We were able to access the chants with AST editor but no one ever figured out how to change the ones I mentioned. Give it a shot...!! :good:

Trent, have you or anyone been able extract and actually play the coresfx.ast.asf and corefx.ast2.asf from corefx.ast ?? I just can't get them play them with my free ASF player, they crash the software.

I think that the on-ice sound effects are somehow stored in some of these audmisc files, we just need to find out how to extract them...

All I know for sure that chants have been changed. The original ruspatch (that had the endless replay) had Russian league chants.

I played with the AST editor years ago but can't really remember what I did...

I have been able to extract chants and everything else already mentioned in this thread related to the audience whistles and voices like "booriing" etc, do you think you could try to open and play these:

Thanks!

Hey man... I have my hands full with this forum, the interface, uploads, member pm's, organizing things, etc.

I have to draw a line somewhere... that means I won't touch the graphics & sounds mods of the game. Otherwise I have to quit my job. :D

Ok Trent, no worries, well it's just two files, plug&play ;)

EDIT: so coresfx.ast contains one .asf file which sounds like skating, that's the only on-ice sound effect I've been able to find so far. I think the effects are some other format than .asf and I guess that has something to do with coresfx.abk file, probably done by the AMOS compiler as similar stuff had been used for the sound effects in the Need for Speed series.

You're right. There has to be a way to extract the sounds from those files, I'm sure it's possible

Thanks Seb,

well Rexpage has been doing something with the .abk files on NHL09, maybe he could have any idea.

Looking at the audgame.viv from NHL02, there are also tons of .abk files, so I guess these might the on-ice sound files. I've been googling whole day and the only tool I found to open or extract the .abk files was the Amiga abkplayer, I'll play with the emulator tomorrow to see if I can somehow open these files.

And Trent, you as the interface guru, do you know where the menu sounds are triggered from and what is their format?

Menu sounds are in the \nhl 2004\feaudio folder and they're simple asf files.

Trent, sorry if I did not make myself clear, I meant short sound effects in the menu, when you click and set up things, not the standard EA tracks of whatever custom songs.

I'm not a programmer, but the interface is written in the html code and I think there should be some lines within which are related to certain sounds once you click on the particular menu item - with me it's that horn sound after you click the play button I would like to have changed or a bit modified - it's too loud I think :)

I don't know how "open" for editing is the interface html code and although I quite like the sound effects in the menu, imagine we could have completely fresh sounding menu :) And they must be triggered from somewhere explicitely written in the html code, well that's why I asked as you've been into the interface for years.
