2012-13 Facepacks; Let's get them done

Hey guys,

I have no idea if you have read my thread, but I've expressed multiple times that we have had new headshots for the 2012-13 season, all of which can be found on Getty (you will need to sign up for a free account though to access a higher-quality pic).

http://www.gettyimages.com/Search/Search.a...assetType=image

Right now, I am unable to do them all. So I am looking for others to do them... however, they will have to fit within a "high quality" standard if they are to be included in the project.

There is a little style that I follow. For medium and small pictures, the headshots are focused right on the head with a 0.72/1 width:height ratio- no NHL shield or anything. All pics are essentially cropped through their source image. For their in-game photos, the headshot is cut with the shield intact in a 0.78/1 width:height ratio.

The work follows the basic steps here, but with a few twists:

http://z15.invisionfree.com/NHL04Rebuilt/i...hp?showtopic=10

All pics are sharpened with GIMP's sharpen tool at a rate of 50 following resize (Filters -> Enhance -> Sharpen).

Here are examples of how the pics should be done:

I'll provide a few more details later about this... however the teams that have been completed so far include:

Boston
Carolina
Chicago
Columbus
Detroit
Montreal
NY Rangers
Pittsburgh
St. Louis
Tampa Bay
Toronto

These facepacks are likely to be released soon as they are all complete. In addition, assorted pics have been done for some rookies/new players (which is why I'm holding off the release a little longer).

The other teams are up for grabs.

I hope to see some people willing to try this- your contribution to the project would be much appreciated to the community (pending my approval). I am eventually hoping that the person(s) who manage to create high quality facepacks takes over for me in the 2013-14 season, since I probably won't be around doing mods much longer. I am the only one doing this for the NHL and it's about time to pass the torch to somebody else.

They look good to me apart from the fact that you didn't use GIMP's templates provided by spy for med, small pics to create the black frame (check out Datsyuk's photo and you will understand what I mean).

Small photos look ok so far (the cuts are fine), but I'd like to see other progress made on med and png pics. You need to use the frames I created.

The pics I think need to be sharpened.

I have .PSD templates with boarders and sharpening/lighting effect layers that I could upload? I've used them for the CHL mod

Yeah Nick, go ahead. I can add them to the tutorial.

It's good to have another template around.

Here are my .PSD files for facepack making;

DOWNLOAD

For the front-end portraits, right click on the photo layer and select "Replace Contents", select your photo, resize the photo to your liking, and save. You can adjust the sharpening and lighting layers to your liking.

For the in-game portraits, I've made a layer mask that is the correct proportions for the image. Once again, right click on the photo layer and select "Replace Contents", select your photo, resize the photo to your liking, and save.

I don't have a small photo temp, as I just resize the med pictures, they still turn out great in the game

I try another attempt with template from The Cheese - thanks to Nick for this - Dallas Stars - Posted Image

One man in Russia asked me, why Jaro Jagr not yet in Stars uniform in facepacks, so I begin from this team - and, off course, I watch in Dynasty of BostonMVP77 with this guys - I think, his reports will be more beatiful with this facepacks - https://mega.co.nz/#!bRgnCQyA!NDSLE...njFscS-rc7BpWp4
P.S. Rousell and Olexiak not yet in rosters, but they already play in real NHL, so I create his faces too - you man include them, when players will be create...

I need to examine them more closely so give me a few days.

PS: Oleksiak and Chiasson have already been given new images so don't worry about them.

Yeah Valter they look very good but please do the in-game faces as well. Remember to cut it the way I did using the images from Getty; the NHL shield must appear in the picture.

You don't need to do Oleksiak since he's been done by me.

Hmm... on second thought, there could be improvement on the small game faces.

The frames that I have are much thicker and can be clearly seen. In yours, the frames are not very sharp (I'm guessing through an auto resize).

Please try to do those with my small frame template... yeah, I know I'm being picky, but I cannot include them unless this issue is fixed.

Perhaps can you create a psd frame for it, Nick? It's more work but its worth it.

A little bit of a joke, but which pictures for these three Devils do you want:
