![]() Deciding Game #7. The atmosphere was good... both teams started with their "second goalies". Norja wasn't convincing in game #6 but he was still the coaches' choice. First period was scoreless. At 7:47 of the second period Mikko Kurvinen took a penalty and Tappara took the lead. It was Umisevic again who had been playing an excellent series. 1-0 Tappara. ![]() Kurvinen knew it was a costly penalty. ![]() HIFK was prepared well... perhaps too well. Their physical game went a bit overboard. Here's Melart offering a HUGE cross check on Sami Venäläinen. Well deserved 2 minutes for this dangerous play. ![]() Jussi Makkonen made it 2-0 Tappara after a breakaway. Sharp wrist shot went in through Norja's armpit. ![]() Then Jukka Peltola made it 3-0 during Varakas' penalty. It started to look bad. ![]() In the third Period Sailio raised HIFK hopes with this great wrist shot. Metsola was having a fantastic night again but this shot was just too accurate... straight to the upper right corner. ![]() Tappara was defending well. HIFK took a timeout and pulled Norja. They even got three or four good scoring chances from the pressure but nothing seemed to go HIFK's way tonight. Tappara got the puck in the neutral zone and Juha Leimu put it in the empty net. ![]() 4-1 Tappara. Game, set and season. ![]() Changing Noronen to Metsola turned out to be a great move by coach Rautakorpi. Tappara went to the finals against SaiPa. ![]() HIFK bench was (naturally) very disappointed. They couldn't believe it... but then again they took way too many penalties in this crucial game and Tappara punished from them with a high percentage. ![]() Season over. Last look at the old "Nordis" this year. ![]() HIFK 1 TAPPARA 4 1st period 13:18 IFK PEN JONI TOYKKALA Hooking, minor 19:33 TAP PEN MARKUS KANKAANPERA Tripping, minor 2nd period 07:47 IFK PEN MIKKO KURVINEN Tripping, minor 08:51 TAP PPG (0:1) DRAGAN UMICEVIC JUHA LEIMU, PEKKA SARAVO 09:21 IFK PEN ILARI MELART Cross checking, minor 12:08 TAP GOAL (0:2) JUSSI MAKKONEN DRAGAN UMICEVIC, MARKUS KANKAANPERA 14:14 IFK PEN VILLE VARAKAS Roughing, minor 15:11 TAP PPG (0:3) JUKKA PELTOLA MARKUS KANKAANPERA, TUUKKA MANTYLA 19:03 IFK PEN VILLE PELTONEN Interference, minor 3rd period 00:30 TAP PEN MARKUS KANKAANPERA Hooking, minor 06:26 IFK GOAL (1:3) JARI SAILIO VILLE VARAKAS 19:50 TAP ENG (1:4) JUHA LEIMU TUUKKA MANTYLA, JUHA METSOLA

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() The finals were seemingly tight games but 4-0 still made them very one-sided affair. Apparently SaiPa was feeling too comfortable for their first silver medal, which was already achieved after the sensational Jokerit series. ![]() ![]() Playoff Scoring Leaders. ![]() Thanks for following the season. I couldn't make it all the way this time but it was a lot of fun.

Thanks man. No... no plans yet. The next one will probably be from the 1996-1997 season... that mod has a special place in my heart. |

Thumbs up on that! Yes, I can agree on that. If the 93-94 mod isn't released I'm surely going back to the 96-97 mod and do another "league-worst" season thread.

For me winning the Cup is not the biggest motivator... who wants to read about constant championships... the idea is to represent a season genuinely... not a cheesy hero story. That's why I try to find settings that makes it challenging enough. Faceoffs at 50 and CPU Adv. at 0 worked for me... in the SML... but it might be too easy with the NHL mod... who knows... We'll see... anyway I'll be using the post-trade deadline rosters (96/97 mod) this time. |

Hear hear! Writing a great story with a lot of in-depth information to create a feeling that engages the reader is more important than just going for a sure championship run. And of course, create a challenge for yourself. ![]() Anyways, looking forward to your next season report! |

Great season reports, man. I don't know anything about the EU-Leagues but this was pretty cool to follow. Looking forward to your next 96-97 season... Regards, Franco MDH |
