I'm rusty... haven't really played the game in ages (actively). I play like sh*t. ![]() I've never been a great player though. |

Game 6 (Simulated) HIFK-Blues 1-3 Helsingin Jäähalli, Helsinki Finland Another loss against the Blues. ![]() After the game... ![]() Translation: I changed the CPU advantage back to 0. I simply couldn't keep up with the opposing teams. It's probably because I had such a long break from this game. Even my old (limited) skills were gone. When I got outshot by Lukko by a ridiculous margin... besides putting my all (feeble) skills there (26-48) I decided to make this move. News: ![]() Trades are off but I had accidentally put Perreault to hidden because I thought he was going to NHL. Then I found out that wasn't the case so I included him into the lineup. |

This is amazing, trent. Good to see a season report from you back again. Don't simming games look nice on the stats? I really thought so. Nice move on changing the coach (changing sliders) and on signing Perreault (forgetting him). It makes the reports very real. Keep it up! Regards, Franco MDH |

Thanks Franco. ![]() Game 7: Synergia Areena, Jyväskylä Finland With the new coach the team was full of "old HIFK spirit". Sim Liivik and Ilari Melart were showing a lot of that in the 1st period. Markus Granlund scored at 1:24, from a great assist by Joakim Eriksson. The second period was very defensive-minded play by both. But just before the break, JyP tied the game at 19:47 of the 2nd. That was a huge blow. In the next shift the big boys, Melart and JyP enforcer Jonne "The Butcher" Virtanen dropped them. Previously, JyP's Bradley was trying to get under Melart's skin and tried to get him to drop his gloves... but Melart only wanted to fight "the big fish". ![]() It was a good, spirited bout with both players landing a few nice ones. Old time HIFK was back. At least for a while. ![]() In the 3rd HIFK had a few great scoring chances. Here's Tarkki making an incredible save on Peltonen's wrist shot. ![]() In the dying seconds HIFK's new guy, Joel Perreault took a stupid offensive zone penalty. Coach Jalonen called a timeout. (Timeout is a great way to get your players' energy back to full). ![]() JyP pulled their goalie but HIFK wasn't actively trying to get an empty netter. Securing the first win of the season was way more important. And it came. Man of the mach was Ortio who saved 33 shots. ![]() Box Score and results of the other games of the night. ![]() After two desperately needed wins it was time to get a revenge from the 1st meeting against Jokerit. HIFK played physically at home and didn't give any freebies to their enemies. Here's Ruutu getting some wood. ![]() 1-0 goal was a beaty. Elkins scored his first goal of the season from a perfect pass by Granlund. ![]() Granlund was man of the match today: 2+1. ![]() Sim Liivik and Jarkko Ruutu don't like eachother. They fought a spirited fight and both landed a few. ![]() Peltonen finished Jokerit with his 4-0 goal. ![]() HIFK fans had something to cheer about. ![]() HIFK 4 JOKERIT 0 1st period 00:30 JOK PEN OSSI VAANANEN Tripping, minor 02:48 JOK PEN ANTTI-JUSSI NIEMI Hooking, minor 13:16 IFK PEN TONI SODERHOLM Cross checking, minor 2nd period 16:07 IFK GOAL (1:0) COREY ELKINS MARKUS GRANLUND, MIKKO JOKELA 3rd period 04:29 IFK GOAL (2:0) MARKUS GRANLUND ARTTU LUTTINEN, MIKKO JOKELA 11:48 IFK GOAL (3:0) MARKUS GRANLUND TONI SODERHOLM, COREY ELKINS 14:49 IFK PEN SIIM LIIVIK For misconduct 14:49 IFK PEN SIIM LIIVIK Fighting, major 14:49 JOK PEN JARKKO RUUTU For misconduct 14:49 JOK PEN JARKKO RUUTU Fighting, major 18:46 IFK GOAL (4:0) VILLE PELTONEN MIKKO KURVINEN, EERO SOMERVUORI

Nice season, I imagine it takes alot of patience for an entire season of NHL 04, especially when your not doing so well in the standings. More often than not I get bored with my seasons or dynastys about a week into them and start a new one. How do players like yourself stay motivated to play an entire season all the way through? I have to force myself to sit down and play every night if I want to finish one

What really makes it boring is winning all the time... most people (imho) play with too easy settings after they have mastered the game (based on their season reports anyway). With correct settings you can make this game insanely difficult. +1 CPU advantage was too much for me this time (after a long hiatus). I'm happy that I don't have great gaming skills in NHL 04... keeps it interesting. Getting too good is actually a disadvantage of some sorts... the whole "kick" in sports games isn't winning every time (imho)... it's the authentic season experience, win or lose. I stay "motivated" because I think it's fun... plain and simple. When I have some spare time I'm actually WAITING to play the next season game. And if I don't feel like it some day, I'll take a break. No big deal... FUN... that's the whole thing. |

Yeah I agree with trent. I try to post my reports pretty regularly, but I play when I have time and feel like it. When I feel like playing NHL 04, I play a couple games at a time, and then I'll have a few games to post. Just keep playing when you feel like it and it'll stay fun and should keep you motivated. |

Game 10 (Simulated) HIFK-KalPa 4-3: Helsingin Jäähalli, Helsinki Finland Fourth win in a row. This time against KalPa (Kuopio). Söderholm was on fire. ![]() Söderholm took the lead in the team scoring. He makes a lot of points for a D-man. Very offensive style.

GAME 11: TPS-HIFK HK Areena, Turku Finland This game started slow. Neither team got anything going, until Mikko Jokela got a cheap goal. It was a mistake by the TPS goalie and Jokela put a weak wrister into the net. ![]() HIFK took a LOT of penalties but TPS powerplay was effortles. It was 1-0 until the dying minutes of 3rd period. Then HIFK D-Man Kurvinen played sloppily under TPS forwards' aggressive forechecking. ![]() Nestori Lahde thanked for the gift and put it in. 1-1. ![]() It went to the OT. At least the Turkuhalli spectators were getting their moneys' worth. ![]() In the dying seconds of the OT Soderholm scored. Great wrist shot to upper left corner. HIFK took the important points from Turku and increased their winning streak to 5. ![]() TPS 1 HIFK 2 1st period 06:38 IFK PEN JOEL PERRAULT Interference, minor 07:29 IFK SHG (0:1) MIKKO JOKELA JARI SAILIO 09:14 IFK PEN ILARI MELART Tripping, minor 10:36 TPS PEN MARKO ANTTILA Roughing, minor 14:03 TPS PEN CAMILO MIETTINEN Interference, minor 2nd period 13:09 TPS PEN MARKO VIRTALA Hooking, minor 19:15 IFK PEN ILARI MELART Tripping, minor 3rd period 09:15 IFK PEN MARKUS GRANLUND Hooking, minor 11:52 IFK PEN JARI SAILIO Hooking, minor 15:37 IFK PEN EERO SOMERVUORI Slashing, minor 18:55 TPS GOAL (1:1) NESTORI LAHDE Unassisted Overtime1 04:17 IFK GOAL (1:2) TONI SODERHOLM COREY ELKINS, ARTTU LUTTINEN

GAME 12 (simulated) HIFK-Kärpät 3-2 (Shootout) Helsingin Jäähalli, Helsinki Finland Great win against Kärpät after the shootout. The winning streak is now 6 games long. It looks like the new coach has changed the course.
