IS anyone going to buy NHL 14?

Will it FINALLY be better than NHL04? NHL 09-13 are crap and haven't hold my interest more than few weeks.

NHL04 is better in almost every aspect compared to NHL13, just the passing game and graphics are better in 13. I love NHL04 to bits but this is a 10 year old game FOR F***CKS SAKE.

Will EA ever give us another great hockey game? They have made two (NHL 04 and 94) so maybe it always takes 10 years to build one?

End rant.

First imprsessions video. is there a real gameplay video out?

If I ran away, I'd never have the strength
To go very far
How would they hear the beating of my heart
Will it grow cold
The secret that I hide, will I grow old
How will they hear
When will they learn
How will they know

Hm this looks totaly same as previous versions, just those stupid trailers which didnt show anything. Im expecting that many players will be pissed off with that colision system, as we know EA well, it will be made to extreme, and when you will skate around goalie you will jump to hell :D

Best think is when hockey game is produced by Indian
Probably like when Eskimo working on beach volleyball game :victory:

What does it matter if it's 10 years old? Does that take something away from the gaming experience?

I don't think so. With modded overhead camera it still looks competitive and modern... only the replays and closeup player animations show its age, really.

For many people (like me) console games are not an option. Sure you can mod them too... adjust the rosters with a rubber gamepad... and play with EA Sports gimmicks. Thanks but no thanks.

PS: Whenever EA Sports advertises new "big hits" or "enforcer engines" be very afraid. Remember what junk NHL05 was... they advertised it with a slogan "bring fun back to hockey". Masses thought NHL04 was too sim-like and they wanted hard hitting arcade crap instead... bodies were flying all over the rink.

In EA Sports vocabulary "fun" always means arcade... and they ALWAYS go overboard with their new "innovations".

Yep, graphics can't save a game in the long run. A fun, entertaining and modifiable game is the one I'll keep playing.

i always buy the new nhl game every year. And then I'm like yeah this is so great. For 2 weeks. then you just realize that it doesn't have any longterm appeal. it happens every year.

unless you play online its useless. against cpu they'll all end up hollow and empty. you get BORED after one season and they all have huge annoyances.

like nhl13 when first you win 20 games in a row easily scoring goals with minimal effort, and the next thing you know, you have a 15 game losing streak, with no bounces coming your way and scoring a goal is impossible. it's scripted so badly, its ridiculous. no realistic balance like nhl04... all scripted sh^^^t.

sheesh i guess ill start another nhl04 season. Probably my 50th already.

Ironically NHL04 was the first hockey game that utilized the scripting and comeback logic heavily.

But I agree... it's not overboard. CPU will create enormous pressure in the dying minutes when it's trailing... but NHL04 is always fair. You can survive it often if you play well enough and kill the CPU momentum. Creating breaks and keeping the shifts short in the dying minutes is very important (if you have a narrow lead). Same thing with the losing streak... you can cut them short if you play well enough. Sometimes it doesn't work... just like in real sport... sometimes you fall into a slump.

With PES series you can be 90% sure the CPU will score from a last minute corner kick. In principle this kind of built-in CPU engine is very nice idea... but I agree that many new sports games have taken it too far.

I never had reason to doubt you guys when you say the AI of today in EA's latest titles (e.g. 2009) is way too easy. Take this for example, I had to laugh out loud when I saw this guys game :D
EA knows players buy their NHL titles for the sole purpose of playing online against other humans anyways.

This is a classic... and I bet the guy got the idea for his video from this.

:D lol yea, thats the video I was thinking of.
By the way, what the guys in both youtube videos do is still possible in NHL 04, it just takes more skill and alot more passing. I play exhibition games with a +1 CPU advantage and sometimes I can still run out maybe a quarter to half a period straight by passing it between my d-men and playing keep-away in my own zone.

Yeah stuff like that is possible in 04, but like you said, it takes skill. In 09 all you have to do is hold boost and skate around.

I might buy it as I always do but it looks not that much improved. 13 was very good IMO as skating was needed to be done and added more variability to the game. This looks like a patch though.
