If you change the path to the game, make sure to run it using launcher.exe since it updates the registry to point to the new path.

If I were to change the path, would I have to reinstall the base game to C:\NHL2004 or just extract the RARs there? Or even just cut and paste?

You need to extract the modded files over the base game. You can move the directory after installing if you use the launcher afterwards since it will update the registry for you. You will also need to manually register becontrols_pc_z.dll and BrowserEngine_pc_z.dll afterwards. Based on my tests though, I haven't seen any evidence that a "short path" is required, nor is XP mode. If there is a problem with installing to program files, it's probably a permission issue.

Edit: The launcher now registers those files for you: http://z15.invisionfree.com/NHL04Rebuilt/i...post&p=24055519

Have any of you who had the problem with a bunch of script errors solved the problem?

Unfortunately I haven't, unsure if anyone else has.

Unfortunately it didn't work work me. :(
Weird since when I installed the base game, it launched by itself at the end of installation and it worked. I could play it. Also I made a backup of NHL04 rebuilt files from my desktop that I installed on like last year and when I copied them over the base game on my laptop they worked (but with some weird sort of lag). I can't check if this update works on my desktop since I don't have it anymore.

I faced a lot of issues with scripts, what you can try is:
First, put the folder c:\nhl 2004 to your exceptions list in your antivirus, both the scan exceptions and the real-time protection exceptions. Then,
Uninstall the game, delete the folder c:\nhl 2004 and reinstall the game. Reinstall the mods after that. I found out that my antivirus was blocking some files, so putting the folder in your exceptions list might help.

its so weird. im pretty sure it has to do with windows 8 and ie11. but i installed the game and extracted all the files with the exception of the interface (i missed it on accident) and the game ran fine. it wasnt until i installed the interface (both the standard one and NHL one) that the game started throwing the errors and crap. hmm.

What I'll probably try doing is keeping the stock interface and trying to just replace all the image files and see how that works lol. Something is screwy with Windows 8.

How did you get around the SmartScreen saying that it blocked the app since it doesn't recognize it when you launch NHL.exe or the launcher? I have added my files to exceptions but like every time windows SmartScreen would pop up when I want to launch the game and it would block the app. So to launch the game I would have to click "More Info" on the message SmartScreen puts and then click "Run Anyway" and then the game runs with all those script errors. I don't think SmartScreen is preventing any other files from opening but you never know.

Can't you just set the Antivirus completely off (temporarily) and see if it works?

I did do try that once and it didn't change anything. What I am going to try now is that instead of installing the game in D:\NHL2004 I will install it in C:\nhl 2004. Since the people with the game working have it installed in that path.

\\Edit: It didn't work.

> well i read some things on some other forums and some people recommended just waiting. admittedly, i was a little impatient. nothing was happening in about 40 seconds so i would always ctrl-alt-esc out.

i decided to wait 5 minutes or so. after about 2 minutes, the game said 'ie compatibility fix has been set. please restart game.' the game quit out and i ran it again.

about another 2 minutes of waiting on the white screen and i was at the main menu.

so this is really just a case of me being an impatient idiot.

if anyone else is getting a white screen with no error messages, just WAIT.

Yes, this worked for me. Never could get the game to start (ie get past the white screen). Now it does. I have to wait a long time any time I start up the game to get past the white screen.

Running Windows 8.1... Now I can play it... Cheers! :good:

For those of you with a white screen, please try this Master_Tool.exe (goes in the NHL 2004 folder). Make sure to backup the original file. This file does nothing, it just disables the features of Master_Tool.exe to see if that is the cause.

Please report back
