Hey guys. I think I've searched for my problems.. while I do see similar ones, I don't see my specific set of problems. Hopefully I'm not re-posting an old issue..

I'm running windows 10 64-bit, and I'm able to mount the discs and "install" the game. I use the CCD files and not the CUE or image files, as instructed. A couple of differences though:

In the videos for installation that you provide, it shows the installer going straight from "register later" and "you won't get tech support bla bla bla..." to the installation progress bar. Mine interrupts with a prompt to install some sort of EA online app. I've skipped it.. I'm going to try installing it after this post, but I don't think it will help because...

At the end of my install, the game does not try to start itself (like it does in the videos) as the game executable won't actually run. It's set to run as admin, and I've tried all compatibility modes (win 95 up to win 8).

Because the game does not run, it never creates a folder in "my documents" or "user\documents\nhl 2004".

I'm fairly confident that I "bought from the same store" as all of you. I won't need a no-cd crack or anything, correct?

Do I need to worry about the vanilla game running? Will fully installing the mods overwrite compatibility issues? Could I just create my own NHL 2004 folder in my documents folder? Any help is much appreciated, thanks.

I wouldn't bother trying to get the game to run without mods. You'll be up against a lot of compatibility issues that are fixed with the rebuilt interface. After installing the game disc (to a folder other than program files), move right on to installing the rebuilt interface and the rest of the mods, as instructed in this thread. Let us know if you still have problems and we'll go from there. :)

Hi all,

Big fan of everyone's work this really is very unique and I love anything that relives the nostalgia of the old NHL series games

I'm having a couple of moments of trial and error as I installed everything today to try and regain my interest in this classic game

My biggest issues to which I have not found a fix for:

1) I always receive the error message that a path is not defined at the team select screen (leading me to the .js files in relation to logos)

2) that wouldn't be a big problem, except that at the end of the games, the error comes up again, then it asks me to run RusPatch, and then the screen freezes at the "what's new" screen. Not only does it freeze, alt-tab and task manager are disabled. I have to log out of my computer to regain control of it

3) this one made me laugh at first but now it's making it unplayable: endless replays. Player scores, celebration cutscene is shown, replay of the goal is shown, new angle of the celebration cutscene is shown, replay is shown again, and it goes on forever. The only exception to this is in dynasty if it's the first goal of a player's season because that induces a different cutscene.

If anyone needs screen caps of any of this to better explain I can

Thanks in advance if anyone can help! Great job again everyone

Hi, and welcome BrokenByChange.

1. Can you post a screenshot of the error? Thanks.

2. Your antivirus / OS is blocking RusPatch as false positive. You have to make sure it won't happen again. There are plenty of additional EXE files in the mod and many (crappy) antivirus programs have issue with them. Best option is to remove your current shitty antivirus program and install Panda Antivirus, which doesn't give so many false positives... and is perfect with NHL04. Another option is to put all those EXE files in /NHL04 folder to antivirus "exception" list.

3. Press the pass button to advance from the endless replay loop.

Thanks for the quick response, especially during the Blues game!

Photobucket is down and having wifi issues (otherwise I'd post screen caps not phone pics) but hopefully this is ok, let me know if the link doesn't work; http://m.imgur.com/a/ZWn6o

Antivirus kept deleting Project2 but I've made sure it's on the safe list, I'll do likewise for RusPatch although it hasn't tried to delete it yet.

The pass button looks like it's good. At first I wasn't playing the games, just watching to get a feel for the pace and graphics. I do plan on installing my controller to actually play the games, but if I did want to just sit back and watch a game would I be SOL in regards to the endless replays? Shouldn't be an issue but just curious

Cheers

You have made a crucial first mistake by installing the game to a long path.

Use C:\NHL 2004 and not C:\Users\xxx\xxx\xxx\ etc.

Those long paths might cause this kind of errors.

Your OS isn't able to write CurrentLeagueInfo.txt to C:\My Documents\NHL 2004\USER for whatever reason. That's why it's giving the error message. That folder might be write protected or it might be related to your long path install. :thinking:

Reinstall to a short path and see if this happens again.

Yeah I tried just doing it to C: as opposed to my desktop, same error messages (just with the new path) coming up.

However, I did notice that even when I quit the game and end task nhl2004 in task manager, when I restart the game and go back into dynasty mode it has the final score and stats saved. It's a bit of an annoyance but if there's no workaround, I can live with just restarting the game everytime a game concludes. Load time for this game is extraordinarily quick anyways.

Other than that the game is great from small sample size, thanks again for the quick help

Extract these files to your

C: User (whatever path you have here)\My Documents\NHL 2004\USER

and make sure that folder isn't write protected.

At least you should name the game folder to "NHL 2004".

Here's the problem code.

Code:

function MySaveData(){
if (oGameData.CanSelectSide(0) && oGameData.CanSelectSide(1)){
 var MyFile = MyFSO.CreateTextFile(MyFileRoot, true);
 MyFile.WriteLine(oGameData.HomeTeam+","+oGameData.AwayTeam);
 MyFile.Close();
}

Game can't write a txt file to that said \My Documents\NHL 2004\USER folder... for whatever reason. :thinking:

It is, it just shows up as that in the script error.

Yes... it always shows the game folder like that. It's not a problem at all. :)

My bad! :D

I remember the similar problem from the last year and there were exactly the folder name problem but if both folders are "NHL 2004" then it has to be privilege problem or similar.

Yes it's some kind of priviledge problem. Maybe the user isn't logged in as admin... and can't write files to that folder?
