Hey guys, so i'm looking at getting a new computer, and really the only thing i use it for is NHL04, so i was looking for some tips in terms of compatibility with the game and mods. My computer now is a Dell desktop from 2005 or so. At the time i had spent the money to upgrade the graphics card, but i don't recall what that was. A couple years ago when i was looking at computers i asked someone i knew that was good with computer specs at best buy and he said basically any standard graphics card nowadays would be fine for that. I'm not looking to necessarily go with the HD mod or anything, just want to make sure it works! The other thing was i remember there being some issues with Windows 8 and not being compatible. Would i want to try and get Windows 7? Also, if any of you have experience or knowledge on laptops in general that would be great. My last laptop was the bane of my existence in college and i had to reformat the hard drive a billion times. Can't tell you how much stuff i lost for NHL 2002! Thanks! |

Well I prefer Win 7 (would not take Win 8), but I'm not that Smartphone guy and I think that every second OS of Microsoft was not good. On my blacklist were/are: Win Millenium Win Vista Win 8 If you prefer a laptop I would take an ATI graphic card or something similar - not the standard (sometimes ATI is standard) but not the ultimate best graphic card (wouldn't do that if I'd buy a PC). |

yeah. I use Windows 7 at work and am comfortable with it. never used Vista. I definitely don't want to go crazy with upgrades or get top of the line, still have a budget to work with! I just want it to work with this since that's really all i do on it, and one that is reliable and won't crash/die all the time. |

When it comes to NHL 2004, any recent entry-level to mid-range ATI or NVidia card will be better than an Intel integrated graphics chip. Since it's an older game, you can also go with one of the previous generation mid-range to high-end cards. Just avoid an Intel graphics chip like the plague since the drivers are shit. In terms of CPU, I would go with something like an AMD Phenom if you want to save money. NHL 2004 does most of it's work on a single thread, so even a dual core (Phenom X2) should be fine for NHL 2004 and you can get one for around $100 these days. NHL 2004 should be compatible with windows 8, but windows 7 would be cheaper. If you go the Windows 8 route, I would recommend upgrading to Windows 8.1 asap. |

Thanks Vod. I'm probably just going to get one from Best Buy or something, so I'm sure i'll be ok. I guess my main concern was Windows 8. I haven't really used it but from what i've seen i dont know if i'll like it much. But, if the game works i guess that's all that matters!

Hey all, I appreciate the guidance last time I posted this, but now it actually seems like I'll be getting a computer so I wanted some opinions and I would greatly appreciate help from those more tech savvy, especially with the game in mind since that's about the bulk of what it will be for. First off, laptop or desktop? Does it really matter anymore? Seeing as how I was using a 10 yr old computer before with almost no issues, I figure almost anything will be an upgrade. Thoughts on this? http://www.bestbuy.com/site/lenovo-15-6-la...3&skuId=9647107. |

>First off, laptop or desktop? Does it really matter anymore? If it's a decent laptop and not something like an Atom-based netbook then CPU-wise it should be fine for NHL 2004. What might be an issue is Intel graphics drivers if your laptop has an Intel graphics chip. NHL 2004 uses DX8, which is long obsolete and Intel driver support for old versions of DX is shotty. |

Thanks Vod. The laptop i'm currently looking at has the AMD A-6 Series processor and AMD Radeon R4 graphics. I'm assuming this would handle things? This computer will be legit probably be only used for NHL04 and making addons. |

so I finally got a new computer and i'm praying that I don't run into any problems. Thankfully I backed up everything I had so i'm downloading that now. I have some questions for the experts... 1. Is there anything special i'll need to do since I now have Windows 8? 2. if I just install the base game can I just overwrite the folders with my backed up ones that had everything from the mod and my seasons and whatnot? |

So I was reading a thread about windows 10 and NHL 09 on tbn and seemed there were some issues or special things to consider. I know there's a big difference between 04 and 09 but will there be anything I have to do so everything works correctly? I'm still waiting for 10 to download so I haven't even put it on with windows 8 yet. Figured I'd just get that taken care of first before I start loading everything. |

Switched to Win10 yesterday (temporary). Had some problems with RDP (maybe some wrong network settings) and could not start NHL2004 because I got a message that the graphic card driver is "bad" or that I should update it, but it was the most recent one (ATI Radeon HD6670). Switched back to WIN 7 but Win 10 looked good (maybe I'll go with it sooner or later). |
