The reason why a new game engine sounds appealing is there are some limits that will be very hard to overcome...Sure, there will always be people out there who stick with old operating systems and hardware, but most people will upgrade eventually as prices continually drop.

Good point, that never occurred to me. I run the game on an aging laptop that I plan to soon replace for normal use and dedicate solely to this game, but I'm not sure how many others would be willing to have a dedicated machine just to play NHL 2004.

PES 2013 Cup/Tournament mode didn't even work on W7 Ultimate and W8 without running it in XP compatibility mode.

So this Windows thing is not just "old" game problem. W8 is causing problems even with some new software.

A lot of people are still using the XP.

NHL 2k10 ain't that bad. I played this quite a lot when I still had my console. Check this video out.

Had this been done for PC, it could have been moddable. Maybe one day we can play these with the XBox 360 emulator, which is getting closer.

NHL 13 and NHL 14 were very bad games. look pretty but they dont have any long time appeal. Won't get fooled again by EA. They just push the same shit every year. lotso of hype and hoopla but it's all just pretty package, no real long term attraction.

NHL04 is the only one I keep coming back to. It is seriously flawed in many ways but it feels genuine. maybe its the moderate scripting engine that you guys described. you always have a feeling that you dont know what's going to happen in the next game. You cant even make it to the playoffs sometimes when you play a seoson. And its not because the game is scripted unfair, its just CHALLENGINGin really good way. One of the best sports games ever no doubt. Call me crazy but I'm happy with NHL 04 and not looking for anything else.

NHL 2K10 was a great game! I had it for Xbox 360. Bad thing was that i gave it away. :( When i gave it away and two weeks later, i though, i made realy bad mistake! It was way more realistic than NHL 10. Skating, celebrations, referees and the puck physics were great! Here's and example from how great skating really was:

And with DJ NEO sliders, game was better and realistic!
Here's a gameplay with DJ NEO sliders:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=coYXrXcdubk

For me, there was some annoying things. One was that way too blue and shiny ice. I have never saw that shiny and blue ice. I think, NHL 2K8 had more realistic ices.
Then there was goalies. They were like stand-up goalie. And goalie helmets, them looked so annoying. Then third thing, that was annoying, was players turning. They just turned so fast. That wasn't realistic.

Ps. trent, how did you get that youtube video like that?

Ps. trent, how did you get that youtube video like that?

Here's how to embed videos.

PS: Gameplay in that second video looks good... but I suspect this game was human vs. human?

I'd stick with NHL 2004 rather than play this. And I thought NBA Live 14 and the SimCity reboot was awful.

That's typical EA crap. They've always done this kind of stuff.

I remember how some people complained that NHL 04 was "too realistic". So EA "brought fun back to hockey" to NHL 2005 and it was a God-awful game with that ridiculous hitting engine and even worse game engine.

They always go overboard with all "fancy new features".

I really like it. It is way better than 14. Plus the modes they cut out don't affect me at all. I only play HUT seasons, Season / Be A GM and Online-VS.

The gameplay really made a step forward and the NBC presentation is amazing.

I preordered it on PSN and can't wait for friday :)

NHL 2K10 was a great game!

I agree, nice game. The only problem is that i don't know how to pin a player to the boards and how to hook in NHL 2K10.

Somebody know how to perform those two actions? Thanx.
