Hey guys, EA messed up again this year with the player salaries, cap hits for Toews and Kane are wrong given that they go an extension for 2015-2016. So for next year they cost $6.1 M still. Anyway, why dont we go by capgeek seeing as they are more official than EA.

I agree - we should use CapGeek and not include performance bonus.

Great idea, Bobby ;)

I agree as well. Will be a lot easier for me to enter them in the TC.

Jordan Eberle is worth more than Voracek, will be part of the next dynasty and first canadian team since montreal to win the cup.

lol yeh well i cant NOT say it because i have toews. same thing happened to malkin last year.

we could probably have multiple people working on this and enter the data on a master spreadsheet so it makes it easier to input into the TC.

Cap hit and AAV (annual average value) are exactly same things, the problem is that while CapGeek has right salaries, in EA games they are sometimes wrong.

Actually, some older contracts from the last CBA have a lower cap hit while having a higher AAV. An example of this is Crosby's contract, although his cap hit is only 8.7, his contract pays him approx 12 million.

I would entertain a league where the salaries change based on how much they make based on real life, so although a cap hit may be 5 million, if the player is making 1 million that season alone, it should be 1 million against your cap. It could be very interesting.
Hawks won the cup!

There is some confusion here between the old CBA and new CBA. I had to research it a while ago so I'll break it down for everyone here:

AAV = Average Anual Value... calculated by the total contract value divided by the number of years.

Crosby makes $12M in real dollars but his AAV is only $8.7M per season for the life of the contract. AAV = the cap hit for most players in the league.

The only difference between "AAV" and "Cap hit" is for contracts with performance bonuses (ELC's, Veteran players [i think 34 or 35+], or players coming off long term injuries). In this case their cap hit is the base contract only while the AAV includes the full bonus amount. The team only pays the cap hit for that season, and if bonuses are reached, the remainder of the AAV comes of the team's cap ceiling for the following season. A good example of this is Jarome Iginla's contract with Boston. The Caphit was only 1.8 while the AAV was close to 6. Boston paid 1.8 last season but the remaining money of up to 4.2M is subtracted from the $69M cap this season.

To summarize: the "cap hit" column on capgeek.com is the accurate amount each player is charged against his team on the salary cap.
