I've played like 6 games or so and am losing 7-1 8-1 7-0 where is the adjustment so they don't take as many shots on the cpu teams. |

Why you wanted to have realistic AI but then if CPU is way better than you, you're going to look the way to decrease realism? In my case, those games are even. Are you playing with medium difficulty? Do you play with keyboard? Have you played NHL 2004 more than those 6 games? |

There are no proper sliders or difficulty settings, so play with them until you find what works for you. Also, keep an eye on the strategies the AI uses to score goals and you'll eventually be able to predict and counter them with good defense. |

I am playing on medium skill level and am using a Logitech dual action gamepad. It just seems like the cpu teams are just way to aggressive. Always stealing the puck and like I said way to many shots on goal. |

If the CPU is stealing the puck from you all the time, it means you're holding on to it for too long. A couple of things I've found helpful: 1. Carrying the puck to much is a losing strategy. Holding on to the puck works well in the latest games (NHL12-15), however that aspect is completely unrealistic. You should only be holding onto the puck for a few seconds or fractions of a second before passing it off. Not doing so will just lead to a lot of turnovers and a lot more scoring chances for the CPU. Studies have shown that players only have the puck on their stick for about 30-60 per game. The top players have approximately 30 shifts per game, so you're looking at 1 or 2 seconds of puck possession per shift. 2. The best defense is offense. You need to learn to control possession of the puck when in the offensive zone. Along with #1 above, you need to learn how to cycle well and get the puck deep into the CPU's zone. 3. Goalies tend to get shaky if they let in an early goal or shortly after a goal. You should prevent the CPU from getting prime scoring chances early in the period or shortly after a goal 4. There isn't always a play to be made. This is really one of the faults of the current NHL games where there is always a passing play available to make the transition from defense to offense. With this game, sometime the best play is simply to pass it to no one just so the puck clears your zone and allow you to regroup 5. On defense, avoid constantly switching players. Your AI defense is as good and as aggressive against the CPU puckholder as the CPU is against you, so you should just pick a player, and play his position well and let your CPU teammates do their job. |

For me it's really hard to score in NHL 2004. I usually shoot more than CPU, but GK is super tough. And CPU scores some stupid goals, especially it likes to score 20-30 seconds before 3rd period or OT end horn. Pisses me off all the time. But I love the game.
