10. Download new Commentary/PBP file (update 3.March 2015) update

DOWNLOAD MIRROR

UnRAR the contents of the RAR package to your \NHL 2004 game folder. This gives you completely new commentary, thanks to Vosto and Spy everything has been ripped from NHL 09.

it does not work for me, even if I select Imported Ingame music or whatever, commentary is the same

Sorry... I'm not following.

"New commentary" refers to new play-by-play names... not the commentators themselves.

Is this what you mean?

Of if you're referring to updated pbp, you also have to download and install the newest rosters (that support the new pbp names).

Why would we change it? Name one hockey game that has better commentators. There is none. B)

Some phrases (like he uses the pads to make a save... or FOR A HOWITZER) might get old when you listen to them for years but the NHL04 commentary is still excellent compared to almost anything, imho.

NHL2k5 had great commentary though... but that can't be transformed (obvious reasons).

yes I agree with you it is just...after 12 years of intense playing NHL04, a change in commentary would be refreshing :)

NHL 13 and 14 for starters, but just because I like Gary Thorne and grew up listening to his commentary in games aired on ABC back in the day. But compared to NHL 04, its commentary doesn't include content of today like:
Commentary on the venue they're playing in or fierce rivalries (e.g. Blues/Red Wings)
No updates of a player's milestones during the year (when a player scores his 50th goal or something it has to come from the PA announcer)
No updates on team stats during the game (# of hits, shots, etc.), only vaguely referring to how poor a team's penalty kill is from time to time.
The commentators express joy over a team winning the Stanley Cup and then seem to exit the building and let the music play for the rest of the celebration and ceremony.
No updates on season stats, if a team is in a losing or winning streak upon entering a game or how they're doing compared to other team's in the league.
Granted, it was 2003 when the game was released so there was a lot to be improved upon but there was a lot of missed potential in the commentary too. It gets mind-numbingly repetitive and is the reason why I play with the commentary turned off to make it seem more realistic. This is in no way discrediting all you guys have done so far to make this game even better and better each year but I don't see how this game has the best commentators, that's all.

You could be right.

We could probably change some phrases by taking commentary from 06-09. I haven't played the PC versions too much (as they're crap) so I don't remember if there's anything to take, really.
