Just wondering what the mods and community are like for NHL 09? It's seems pretty much impossible for me to get 04 working on my PC, so I thought I might give 09 a try. Any info/links would be appreciated. Thanks |

There used to be a lot of good and talented guys on the TBN site. But now... I don't know if anyone plays 09 anymore. No idea. PC 05-09 years were god awful hockey games, imho. I remember getting them all every year... hoping that they had improved... then I was trying to adjust 09 in many ways from rosters...tried to make it semi-playable... then I just reinstalled it in disgust after a few hours. Those years are all horrible and unplayable... almost mockery of the sport. Compared to NHL04 anyway. I won my first game on NHL09 7-1 against CPU, on hardest difficulty. It's ridiculously easy... and the only way to make it a bit challenging is to give CPU a huge speed advantage. ![]() I suggest you get NHL08 for next-gen consoles. That's the best alternative.... it was probably the best NG hockey of them all. Haven't played 15 though. Everyone has gotten NHL04 eventually working... I don't know what "Alienware computer" means but your problems sound really weird. I wish I could help. |

Alienware is the gaming computer from Dell. http://pilot.search.dell.com/alienware TBN is http://www.thebreakaway.net/forums/forum.php NHL08 is not for Next Gen, NHL08 is Current Gen. Problem with console games is that you can't updated the graphics, you are stuck with the stuff the EA or 2K gives you. Next Gen is PS4/Xbox One. |

NHL 15 on Current-Gen or Next-Gen didn't feel satisfying to me. It was obviously because of the lack of features in the Next-Gen and the fact that Current-Gen is the exact same thing as NHL 09-14. I don't expect to pay $40.00 or $60.00 for a game that has made minor changes and is still the same exact thing after every year. With NHL 2004 and the NHL 04 Rebuilt community, I don't have to deal with that problem. Once I buy it, I'm good for the future. Plus, I've never played a game that I would enjoy more than NHL 2004. |

NHL09-NHL15 are not the exact same. They are basically the same but NHL15 has improved not lots there is improvement with the games. |

Don't fool yourself. NHL04 is the only hockey game worth playing on PC. It has almost every mod feature possible. NHL PC 09 is just a bad joke.

NHL 04 isn't the only playable PC hockey game. NHL 99, 2000 and 2002 with 2004 imo are the only PC games that are playable. |

Thanks for the responses everyone, sounds like I'll steer clear. I'd be completely satisfied with 04, but just can't get it to work. The only thing I enjoy more of the new NHL games, is the skill stick and EASHL. |

There's been countless improvements and additions between 09 and 15 old gen. It's night and day... NHL 15 is my personal favorite old gen hockey game at the moment, although I probably wouldn't have played it if I didn't stumble upon a very cheap copy since I tend to stay a couple years behind to avoid the $60 price tag. 15 improves on the things that were done right in 14 and fixes many of the things that were done wrong. With that said, the bar is still pretty low when it comes to hockey games for any system. I think the PC modding community has the talent and potential to make a much better hockey game than what EA has produced, especially when you consider how powerful today's hardware is. |

I agree. We'd make a great product team. It's just that programming the game engine is (probably) insanely difficult. It would require a lot of talented coders. We could make wonders with NHL04 hardcode though. |

The way I look at it is it's much easier to create a C++ codebase the size of NHL 2004's source code using existing libraries than it is to manually reverse engineer EA's sloppy compiled machine code and all of the interdependent formats. It's also much easier to find C++ programmers than it is to find ASM programmers who can reverse-engineer machine code. I've only just skimmed the surface in the past couple of years. |
