Anybody could tell me how is NHL 2001 for PC?

I could get a copy for very cheap and I was wondering if anybody could tell me if this game would worth paying very little money

...some of your thoughts about gameplay, modding possibilities, (etc...) would be very appreciated!

I played it a lot back in the day. Me and Randy (Flyermania) started our "modding career" together from NHL 2001.

Brings back a lot of memories.

However, it can't be compared to NHL 04 modded... or the current console hockey games (NHL 15, etc). It's clearly a game from the "older gaming generation". Time hasn't been very gentle to it.

But definitely a nice pick if you can get it for cheap. I loved it back in the day and played/modded it to death.

Big hits gave a "momentum boost" (there was a momentum meter) and occasionally it was complete mayhem on ice. :D

Stupidest thing was the 360 somersault after a big hit. Community fixed it though (Bruno's patch).

Nice 2-player game but against the CPU it was wayyyyyy too easy. I tweaked my own team abilities all the way down to 50 and still won the Cup on hardest level.

Thanks!
I knew it would be nothing compared to NHL04, but I didn't remember it was that arcade-ish!
Now that you mentioned it, now I remember exactly what kinda game it was. I owned it on PS.

I'll stick with 2002 as my "Vintage" version ;)

The 2002 engine is pretty much the same. 2002 had that stupid breakaway camera and cards though.

2003 was still the same engine. Basically 2001-2002 with the idiotic commentators.

Actually, it was 2002 and 2003 when they did have those "funny" commentators. 2001 had fine commentators.

But NHL 2001 and 2002: both are good games. I don't like 2003. Goalies were better comparing to 2001 and 2002, but it was too difficult to score on 'em and A.I was able to score too often.

2001 had Jim Hughson and Bill Clement.
2002 and 2003, Don Taylor replaced Bill Clement.
2004 and on Craig Simpson replaced Don Taylor

To go very far
How would they hear the beating of my heart
Will it grow cold
The secret that I hide, will I grow old
How will they hear
When will they learn
How will they know

The cards were awesome. Collected all in 2002. Also, in germany, there was german commentary until 2002. They talked a lot of bullshit :D
