Hi all fantastic mods. I'd like to say thanks again for all the work. I did a search for multiple installs.I'd like to have AHL and NHL for starters. Can someone give me guidance? Thanks! |

This is just cut & paste from the vintage mod thread: HOW TO INSTALL 2 NHL 2004 VERSIONS INTO YOUR HARD DRIVE Actually, nothing could be easier. Let's assume you have the modern mod installed to D:\nhl 2004 and you want to play this 1997 version. Make a duplicate of that folder to that same hard drive partition. This is important... the game registry will always look for D:\nhl 2004 and C:\My Documents\NHL 2004. Create a folder D:\"Vintage NHL 2004" and copy the full contents of your \nhl 2004 there. DO NOT USE "NHL 2004 MODERN" and "NHL 2004 VINTAGE" as the registry won't get fooled if the first word(s) aren't changed. Use "MODERN NHL 2004" and "VINTAGE NHL 2004" instead. Then do the same to your C:\My Documents (or whatever your OS names this)\nhl 2004 folder. Create C:\Documents and Settings\Vintage NHL 2004, where you copy the whole contents of the already existing C:\My Documents\NHL 2004 folder. Only copy -> paste is needed in this whole process. You don't have to "install" anything again. Then just put the vintage mod rosters & parts to those new folders. Always rename the version you want to play "NHL 2004" from both places... and the one you DON'T play to "Modern NHL 2004" or "Vintage NHL 2004" (or whatever you want). You only have to understand how the game works... it needs those 2 folders, and the registry will ALWAYS search the game from D:\NHL 2004 (and its C:\documents folder). You kinda "fool" your computer to load that another game version. Not exactly rocket science, right? |

You can also use Vod's Launcher and the line "MyDocsPath" in the launcher.ini file, so you don't have to keep re-naming the install folder and the My Documents folder to switch between mods. However, doing so breaks the home goal ditties until Vod releases an update to fix that. |

Let me make sure I've got this... You keep various versions of the game in whatever you wanna call them. You keep various versions of the MyDocuments folder in whatever you wanna call them. BUT When you load a version of the game, the launch folder and the MyDocuments folder HAVE to be called the initial install name. So if you install to NHL2004, you have to constantly change the install of documents folders to NHL2004 and then back to whatever you call them when not playing. ...is that it? |

You can use the virtual docs feature of the launcher. Each game install has their own launcher.ini. Within launcher.ini, add MyDocsPath=whatever IE: Install 1 launcher.ini: MyDocsPath = C:\Games\NHL 2004\Docs\ Install 2 launcher.ini: MyDocsPath = C:\Games\NHL 2004-2\Docs\ Keep in mind that this tells the game that the above path is your My Documents folder, so when you create the folders, you need to go one level deeper. IE: C:\Games\NHL 2004\Docs\NHL 2004\ |

So using this, you don't have to actually put the documents folder contents (rosters, saves) in C:Users--(name)--MyDocuments--NHL2004? I can put those folders just on C somewhere because the ini folder tells it to look there? |

Yeah. Pretty much. The game asks Windows where your My Documents is located and Launcher intercepts it and gives them the location you specify. |

Wait, do you still need to change the install folder to what it was when you installed? Because only changing the ini file isn't working. |

Did you move your entire NHL 2004 folder from My Documents to the new location? |

I didn't move the mydocuments. Wait this is easier.... Installation c:\NHL 2004 --- this is stock, everything after '4' is not in the name c:\NHL 2004 - Vintage 01 c:\NHL 2004 - 2017 My Documents C:Users--(my name)--MyDocuments--NHL 2004 - stock C:Users--(my name)--MyDocuments--NHL 2004 - Vintage 01 C:Users--(my name)--MyDocuments--NHL 2004 - 2017 And then, when I want to play I change the appropriate MyDocs folder to just NHL 2004. What I thought was that editing the ini file would allow me to direct each installation folder to a different MyDocs folder (in any location, but even just under Users) without having to go through the tedious task of renaming things. |

And you thought correct.. I don't know how to explain it any differently.. Each install as their own launcher.ini. Each launcher ini points to a different my documents folder. No matter where you point MyDocsPath to, it must have "NHL 2004" as a subfolder as if it were actually My Documents. And that's where you put rosters etc.
^ The game now thinks "C:Users\(my name)\Documents\NHL 2004 - stock\" is your My Documents folder. Thus it looks in that location for the NHL 2004 folder:
.. Which should contain the USER Folder etc.

Ok, but now does the game directory HAVE to be named just NHL 2004 to load? Is that a name change I have to keep doing? |

The main game directories (containing NHL2004.exe) can be named whatever you want. |
