Using a MS Wireless 360 controller to play?

I don't know if this is my first post; if it is, then hi.

I have been poking around these forums for a while and a few months back while I was using Windows 7 Ultimate x64 I installed NHL 2004 with the hope of using, well, ANY of the mods on here but in particular the 2015-16 mod. Everything installed correctly and worked correctly (outside of some Java errors that I never fully fleshed out but chalked up to not being properly whitelisted), except for my controller; it is a Microsoft Wireless 360 Controller. The game has never recognized the right analog stick or the triggers. Now I'm on Windows 10 x64 and I installed NHL 2004 again with the 93-94 season mod and everything works fine as before except for, of course, the controller issue. (This morning I was recalling the early days of playing NHL 2004 when I had a Gravis Gamepad Pro and remembering that scoring was challenging enough; it wasn't until recently that I realized (through watching videos of the mods for this game) that the right analog stick allows for manual dekes which I suspect are vital for scoring in this game.)

I would like to add that I've tried probably everything that has been advised in this thread: downloading MotioninJoy or Xpadder, RegEdit-ing, installing different drivers...none of them have worked and/or make bigger headaches than I had before. I see that other people CAN get the 360 controller to work, but without any deep explanation or just as a fluke even.

Is there any consensus on what works? If not, is there any way to get to the bottom of this?

I'm sorry for the redundancy of topics but it seems if there is a dedicated enough community here to mod the game then there must be something definitive to fix this issue.

Hey... welcome! :good:

I'm a boneheaded keyboard player myself but perhaps this thread could help you?

Well that's precisely the thread I've looked at before and reference in the OP. :D

I'm a veteran of message boards and understand that topic redundancy is usually verboten but the issue seems unresolved and I'd hope not to have the subject disappear without a solid conclusion.

Oops... sorry. I didn't read your message properly.

PS: Do you still have JavaScript errors? You should not. It's not normal and the mod isn't functioning fully when you get them.

I was having Java issues with the 2015-16 mod; I've had no issues with the 93-94 mod thus far.

The permanent solution is adding proper xinput support to the game. Until then, the only non-hacky solution is using a Direct Input controller, like a Logitech or generic.

Actually, with Xinput Plus you can simulate DirectInput and play, with working right stick

...That's what I'm using for my Wired XBOX 360 Controller, as you only have to put a DLL in the game folder, no need to install weird drivers at all

But ignore what I said, don't even know why I replied as I'm not the modding guru around here

Can you elaborate on the function of this program? How did you get the right stick to work?

Like I said, ignore me

If Vod says the only solution is his Launcher (what a coincidence!), then I'm only deluding myself or living in a parallel universe

I never said the launcher is the only solution. I said the only permanent non-hacky solution is adding proper xinput support to the game or using a directinput controller, which was in response to OP saying that they've had bad experiences with using software. :)

Hi Vod! Why after I apply Xinput settings to nhl2004.exe, launcher (v. 1.5.0 B4) is not working (once I click "Launch NHL 2004" laucher is not responding and the game does not start)? Can this be fixed?
