I live in Texas. I played American football from 6 yrs old to 19 years old. I played Rugby in college and beyond from 23 yrs to 27 years. Mix that with some baseball, 4 years, limited basketball and even racquetball. I was a high school American football coach, wrestling coach, and track coach for 10+ years. In all that time, I never collected card for any of those sports. Now I have always been a computer sports junkie. I played/simulated just about every sports game I could find except hockey. Then it happened....
In 1995 I came across EA sports 1995 Hockey. It played strictly top down, had ugly sprite graphics and came with a huge book filled with players stats. I loved it! I would take that book and read stats about players I had never even seen. Needless to say i was enchanted. I stared to watch real hockey games.
I learned just how, amazing some of the feats in hockey were. Just how GREAT the GREAT ONE really was. Montreal's 4 straight NHL titles and something like 23 titles overall. Mix that in with Lemeiux, Lindross, Karyia, Selena, Messier, etc.. I was blown away.
I even started to collect Hockey Cards.
I then started to buy every EA hockey game, for a few years. I think it was 99 that had real game player interviews before each match. I'll never forget Lindross " In the NHL you have have your Stars, you have your superstars, you have your good players...." I loved those clips..
The 2000 version had the great into music "Head explodes and body aches" and maybe the best intro clips ever.
2001 music and clips to "all your weight"..awesome plus a lot of extra animations...players pounding glass in penalty box etc...
2002 some of my favorite sound tracks....
Sadly, I stopped purchasing until 2008. Completely missed 2004.
By chance in early 2016 I came across the article about "Why fans of hockey play 2004 rebuilt..."
I purchased NHL 2004 and immediately applied rebuilt.
Needless to say, This is it. I love it!
If I could go back in time and chose a place to be born, I would chose somewhere Hockey was played. I'll be honest I have never even been on ice before. But If I had grown up where there was ice, Hockey would have been my one and only sport. I love violent sports, I love team chemistry, I love EVERYTHING about hockey...and everything about NHL 2004 rebuilt..

Agreed. 90's mods are my favorite, because I know alot of players from that era. That era is magical for me. As a kid I was following NHL and NBA. I didn't collect sports cards, but I used to have those sticker albums and I was always trying to save some money and buy stickers after school. Good times.

My best friend had PSX and we used to play video games at his place. I remember when he got NHL '99 and I was totally blown away by it's intro. It's still my favorite intro of any sports games.

NHL '99 Intro

I used to play alot NHL '06 on PC, but once someone mentioned that NHL '04 is the best hockey game on PC. So I tried it and never looked back. I don't remember how, but I found this forum and all amazing mods.

I'm really thankful to all people who have done their fair share of hard work to make all these amazing mods and keep NHL '04 alive.
