Any update on 31 teams/new interface/Vegas?

I did a search on the forums and found several older topics (+6 months). Most of them gave mixed answers, where some had ideas (Vod) and some said to wait.

Just be clear: we need a new interface to get 31 teams working, right?

How is the progress on this and who is working on this?

I could bump some of the bigger topics on the forum, but I did not want the answer to be drowned away by posts.

We need to wait Vods next launcher update to see which kind of new features we have and how we can use them with the interface. After that we have to create totally new interface.

So.. for now, we just have to wait and focus on other updates :)

Just finished a season with the Jets, been meaning to reinstall/update it again for a new season.

Can't say. Only Vod knows how soon the new Launcher comes out.

And then we have to find people who are willing to contribute to the new interface. But I think it's safe to say it will take months.

The next version of the launcher isn't necessary for 31 teams.. The easiest way to get around the hard-coded interface limits is to make a new interface. Launcher scripts can be used alongside a new interface for modifying the hardcode as necessary, but that doesn't require a launcher update. Version 2.0 does have some features that are specific to the interface, such as an interface selector or being able to select the IE renderer, but those features aren't required to make a new interface. It's just helpers to make things easier.

Just to be clear, the launcher has been complete since version 1.5 b4 when it comes to being able to modify\add to the game code, so you can already add just about any feature you want to the game. All the upcoming updates are for other aspects of the launcher.

No I don't think so.

We don't have much people who are willing to contribute anything at all - and the old guard is busy with their current mod duties.

For me it's a task # 1. make a season with a calendar of 31 teams still not real ... why then the rest?
is it possible to do at least a basic script, to run the season with 31 teams.? nothing else matters.

If it was easy it would have been done already. But it's not easy.

You can dictate with modifications how many teams play in the other leagues but not NHL. It's in the hardcode.

No. The limit is 30 teams in a league at the moment.

just my 2 cents, but what I am doing is just to swap Vegas for Arizona, and play with 30 teams... as I really couldn't care less about Arizona. (sorry, not sorry :bleh:)

ok, it's not the most realistic but it works for me. just saying, Arizona sucks big time and Vegas is one of the strongest team right now so I figured I prefer to leave one out and have the other in.

we will get to a fully working 31 team season for the next season, no doubt!
until then yes there is also V2, it's so great... thanks again for that

A new widescreen interface with support for unlimited teams and game modes has been under development for a while, but it's a very slow process. There's more to it than just a new interface. A new roster file format is required for the interface to be able to easily manipulate it without using hardcoded functions. So everything in the roster needs to be moved to XML files or some other format that can easily be parsed by javascript. When that happens, there can be unlimited teams, league structures, game modes etc. With that said, there's other ways to get around the 30 team issue, like modifying the hardcode using a launcher script. But even if we fix that particular problem, there are still many other problems and limitations with the interface that we could get around by starting over and using the latest IE renderer instead of the ancient IE8.

This is why bounties became a thing in the open source software world.

@Vod Now I have to ask, which file format you prefer? XML seems to be a little bit weird format at first for those who are not used to do anything related to coding. Or did you mean that if we have the XML format file, we will modify that file from the interface so basically the guy who makes the roster, don't have to no anything about the file format?

And it is easy to parse things from XML file? It looks quite tricky for me. Which kind of benefits we have to use that format if you compare the others? :thinking:
